My friend and I are currently playing through on Classic Mode. Initially the game was very difficult, we had a lot of fun struggling through the fight with Griff and his crew.

Same goes for the armored guard outside of the fort who is feasting on corpses. But since then the difficulty in the game has eroded by quite a bit as we near the end of act 1.Most enemies and boss fights are no longer difficult. For example a dragon asked us to slay a witch and acquire her purging wand. I put my rogue in stealth mode and opened with a back stab on her.

Within 2 turns and one attack of opportunity she had lost all of her physical armor, allowing me to chicken her the next turn.Because I was able to chicken the witch so early, I didn't even get to see what kind of spells she had. We then cleared up all the adds fairly easily.Did we just out gear / level the content in Act 1? Does Act 2 and onwards get more difficult - or does it sound like we should increase the difficulty to tactician mode?. I'm fairly new to divinity and currently playing on tactitian mid act 2. After restarting on level 3 and some homework (reading some theory and builds) and getting my builds fairly right tactitian is fun to play and not too hard.

Of course getting my ass handed to me sometimes, but after some thinking or doing another level and coming back to the fight nothing too hard.conclusion: if you are experienced with RPGs (and maybe turn based strategy) and if you don't mind restarting early if you got the initial builds wrong it's manageable and lots of fun. Yes, with intensive gearing/min-maxing this game is generally 'easy', especially when you plan a fight for maximum CC/Turn denial. This goes for even Tactician and Honour mode. The game is at its hardest early levels (classic RPG issue, level 4 mob is 100% higher level than the level 2 player, as opposed to a level 17 mob only being 13% higher level than level 15 player).Gearing in DoS2 is everything. If you buy 2-3 pieces of gear on each partymember at any given level, all encounters at that level will seem trivial, but that's really the only way the game remains balanced for those levels where you haven't geared at all.The hardest aspects I found on my first run, where knowing what a fight would bring.

Sometimes you get lucky and CC the most important enemy first turn, sometimes you fumble that turn, and suddenly the fight becomes close to impossible (Act 2 Spoiler: )Specifically for Radeka the Witch, if you don't get first turn CC the fight can be really tricky, especially with glass cannons in the party.Don't worry however, some of the bosses/large fights in Act 2 and 4 are real assholes (don't get me wrong, that's a good thing). If you want to go tactician, be prepared to save/load a lot more, and take the time to gear at least every 3rd level!.

The hardest aspects I found on my first run, where knowing what a fight would bring. That's one of the annoying things in DOS2. If you're exploring normally, you are liable to get wrecked on turn 1 with a blind grenade or something on your entire party. However, if you know how the fight goes, you know to spread out beforehand. This can help immensely with a lot of fights, but you need to know to do it, and you can't know it unless you've already tried and failed it, or watched a video of it/read about it on a forum. It's also very tedious to do for every single fight. It's what I would call artificial difficulty.

No, it's just that almost all enemies have no physical resistance(unlike elemental/magic resistance). So yeah, it's easier to physical CC someone after they're out of physical armor, as well as kill anyone with physical attacks. Also, you did good by going for CC rather than focusing on standard RPG team compositions other experienced RPGamers like me did while still new to the game. Btw since it sounds like you're looking for a challenge, you might want to try killing the dragon instead, specially if you're not role-playing.Act 2 have a couple of difficult fights, they can surprise you if you're not prepared but you're ready for Tactician difficulty except you'll need to restart the whole game. OR maybe you can just go straight for Honor difficulty, which is just a single-save/hardcore version of Tactician, once you've familiarized yourself with the game. The game has a very strange difficulty curve, especially of you spec your characters well and go out of your way to find good gear. The first half of Act 1 can be the hardest part of the game, because even though some of the enemies are easier, your characters have very few skills and your equipment is hot garbage. If you guys play well, and you are already finding it to be too easy, I would suggest starting over in tactician mode. The beginning will be a bit brutal, but if you take advantage of as many non combat quests and XP gains as you can, you should be able to level up enough to where you can progress without too much trouble.
