Is anyone else out there as irritated as I am about Skype not closing or quitting? It’s like the family member that won’t leave at Christmas! Even though I am a technician, not every annoyance deserves my precious time. Just like you, I sometimes just wait until I can’t stand something anymore and deal with it. So let’s deal with it together. First we will deal with Skype just always starting up when your computer turns on.If your Skype starts up with your computer and hangs out at the bottom of your computer with the rest of your apps, your Skype is set up to “Launch at startup” of your computer.

Doesn't Meaning

A possible reason why is that this ensures users continue to use Skype on a regular basis, therefore leading to more people starting to use Skype as a way to be sure their contacts will be online, and who in turn won't be able to figure out how to close it, leading to more of their friends using Skype etc. It doesn't really matter whether this is consciously understood by Skype's designers. Any one program likely doesn’t have that much impact on your performance, but when you get 4, 5 or more starting up automatically, that’s going to have an impact on how your computer works. Let’s just focus on your specific complaint, however. Skype automatically starting up on Microsoft Windows 10. Dec 11, 2015  For some reason, you can't close Skype in Windows 10 from the taskbar. But, there is an easy workaround.

So yea, it’s always there. Here is how you can disable thisDisable start up in Skype itself.

Open Skype and go to “Tools” and select “Options”–then uncheck the box “start Skype when I start Windows”. Then it’s gone and should be gone for good! But now, let’s say you start Skype up and use it, chat away and then you want to get out. You can sign out, or quitbut guess what? It will probably still linger like that awkward cousin at Christmas! I want it gone, I hate seeing it at the bottom of my screen! First, I try right clicking on the app and choose the option, “Quit Skype.” It will ask if you are sure you want to quite Skype and inform you that you won’t be able to send or recieve messages anymore.

Why Won T Skype Close

Select “Quit” and it should go away, but a lot of time this doesn’t work. So then I go off and kill it in the task manager. Really, that’s the best way I have found to get rid of it. For now, it’s not that important of a tool for me to put much time into figuring out why the thing won’t close properlyother than Skype did it as a master marketing plan to keep it in your face every day and night.Lisa.

Hello. This is my first time posting here, and I'm having issues with Skype. It was running, literally, just fine this morning but now doesn't seem to want to run.In the task manager processes (Win7) the Skype.exe process appears. The tray notification options also give the option to show the Skype option and show the status as Online, but I have no icon on my taskbar nor any window on screen. There is no indicationthat Skype is running save for these two things. I run Bitdefender 2018 antivirus (not Total Security) and tried launching with the protection temporarily suspended so I think it clear that Bitdefender isn't the culprit. (It's also not in any sort of quarantine).I haven't tried removing Skype (for fear of losing my chat logs) but I have tried running the updater. It seemed to work and seemed to launch Skype when it was done, but again the conditions are as described above.Essentially I'm locked out of Skype right now and I need this app to run!Does anyone have any ideas?

Why Doesn T Skype Close Account

Uninstalling Skype leaves your history intact. You can try to remove your Skype and reinstall it. I recommend you try my removal tool (which does not affect history either), reboot then reinstall the latest version of Skype. If you want to backup allyour history ahead of time you can simply make a copy of your%appdata%Skype folder (when Skype is not running). If you get a complaint about needing Framework 3.5 (and don't want to install it), run the below instead:Skype consumer standard installers.

Hi Sorry for the delay but I tried that too to no avail. My system seemed to develop other odd issues since my original post so I decided to just to a repair install (in-place upgrade) of Windows. I couldn't launch my browser successfully.Though it's been a long wait for the reinstall to complete, at least I now have access to my browser.I just wanted to thank everyone who has offered their assistance on this. I appreciate it though we were not able to identify the cause. I have my suspicions that my Visual C Redistributable installation was corrupted and Skype unable even to give me anerror on point.Basically everything but Skype is now functional - but I have some updates to do before reinstalling the C runtime. If that doesn't work I'm going to pull out my full recovery media and start from scratch. Thanks again everyone.
